How old are you?
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I've been at this for a while! 4+ years now.
Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go?
Oh yes. Coach Mary put me through a series of jump rope, deadlifts and burpees. I hadn't jumped rope since I was 8 and I'm not sure I had ever done a burpee before. I was really hurting after that one. It was awesome!
What is the best part of ACF?
I would say that since starting Crossfit, I am without a doubt in the best shape of my life, but the fitness aspect is a distant second to me. It's the community of great people that keep me coming back for more. How could it not? I met my wife at Bladium and some great lifelong friends as well. I think there were more than 20 of you guys at our wedding!
What movements are you currently trying to master?
I am terrible at snatches. Just awful. But I'm working on it.
What is your favorite WOD?
3 rounds for time: 10 deadlift at 275 lbs, 800m run, 20 pullups. It's not an actual workout per se, just a group of things I think I suck less at. Ha!
Why do you CrossFit?
I like to compete against my buddies, but at the end of the day everyone is there for the same reason and that's to get fit, learn some new skills and surround yourself with good people.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out or is hesitant to try CrossFit?
Give it some time. Start slow with increasing the weight, relish the movements that you are already comfortable with and don't get frustrated with the ones you're not. As far as the community goes, just introduce yourself to one new person per workout. It is going to seem VERY intimidating at first and there will be a lot of serious looking folks just before the start of a workout. It's only because they're just as nervous about the workout as you are!
